Friday, October 8, 6-9 pm @ Bihl Haus Arts: 5th Anniversary Silent Auction & Live Performance
David Zamora Casas said yes. Vincent Valdez wants to. Angel Rodriguez-Diaz, Raul Castellanos, Roland Mazuca, Carol Cisneros and many other visual artists in San Antonio and outside the city have signed on to an original collaborative project for Bihl Haus Arts: They’ll paint the cloth-cover edition of Barbara Renaud Gonzalez's first novel, Golondrina, why did you leave me?—the first Chicana novel to be published by the University of Texas Press (April 2009).
When the writer, Barbara Renaud Gonzalez, mentioned to Kellen Kee McIntyre, Executive Director of Bihl Haus Arts, that she'd just purchased library copies of her novel—a valuable first edition with gold lettering selling for up to $100 on amazon.com—she immediately saw the opportunity for a ‘novel’ fundraiser uniting the literary and visual arts of San Antonio. Titled "Pintame una Flor y te cuento una Love Story," the Reading & Art Pachanga is at Bihl Haus Arts on Friday, OCTOBER 8, 2010, at 2803 Fredericksburg Rd, inside the gates of Primrose Apartments. Cocktails begin at 6:00 followed by a silent auction from 7:00 to 9:00pm. The evening includes antojitos, margaritas, música y mas.
At the Reading & Art Pachanga, Renaud Gonzalez will read from her highly acclaimed novel, accompanied by the percussionist Joaquin Abrego from Los Nahuatlatos. The cloth-covered novel with original artwork by San Antonio artists will be sold at a silent auction. All proceeds benefit the non-profit Bihl Haus Arts.
Bihl Haus, along with Renaud Gonzalez, believes in the illuminating power of art and stories. They are dedicated to featuring and supporting innovative artists for the San Antonio community.
