Get ready to emerge onto San Antonio’s inner-city art scene with the 6th Annual ON & OFF FREDERICKSBURG ROAD STUDIO TOUR, organized by Bihl Haus Arts, which takes place in San Antonio’s famed Deco District, along a section of the celebrated Old Spanish Trail Auto Highway.
More than 70 artists will participate in this year’s tour. The tour weekend kicks off Friday evening, February 15, 6:00-9:00 pm, with the not-to-be-missed On & Off Fred Autograph Gala, at Bihl Haus Arts (2803 Fredericksburg Road). The preview exhibition showcases one work by each of the 70+ artists who will be on hand to autograph your personal copy of the tour catalog. Enjoy lavish hors d’oeuvres, wine, music by the fabulous ‘art band’ Los Nahuatlatos, and the opportunity to mingle with artists and community leaders.
Then vistiors may take the self-guided daytime tour on Saturday, February 16, 11 am to 6 pm, and on Sunday, February 17, noon to 5 pm. Arrive by car, bike or bus, or take a combination. New this year are Bike World Rentals ($5 half-day/$10 full day) at either Bihl Haus (2803 Fredericksburg Road), at the top of the tour, or mid-point at Beacon Hill Presbyterian Church (1101 Woodlawn Ave.). But that’s not all! You're also invited to attend special evening events during the tour weekend, including receptions at Long Hall Gallery (618 W. Craig Place) and Clamp Light Studios (706 Fredericksburg Road) on Saturday, February16, 6:30-8:30 pm; and the closing reception, Say Goodnight, Fred, at the Woodlawn Theater (1920 Fredericksburg Road) on Sunday, February 17, 5:30-8:30 pm.
On the tour visitors are guided by the color-coded map found in the catalog, which makes navigating the tour easy. Seven neighborhoods—each described in illustrated catalog essays—are featured on the tour this year: historic Monticello Park, stately Jefferson, lush Woodlawn Lake, intimate Los Angeles Heights, eclectic Keystone, charming Beacon Hill, and delightful Alta Vista.
Admission for two to all events is free with the purchase of the tour catalog with map. Advance catalogs ($10 advance/$15 during tour) are available NOW at: BIG GRASS (637 W.
